Mission Statement

Relaunched in 2025, the St Andrews Postgraduate Symposium of Art and Culture is an occasion for the recognition, celebration, and development of postgraduate and early career research. This event aims to showcase the ongoing research of postgraduate students and alumni of the School of Art History and beyond and provide opportunities for networking and professional growth.

Postgraduate and early career research is an immensely challenging and often isolating experience, but it can also be an incredibly rewarding one. Through skills workshops, panel presentations, and interdisciplinary networking and discourse, this symposium aims to provide immediate and tangible benefit to students and researchers alike and strengthen the community of researchers across institutions.

Looking towards the future, this symposium aspires to become an integral feature of the St Andrews research community by providing an inclusive space for creative exchange between disciplines and institutions. It will thus strengthen the visibility of doctoral and early career researchers and provide them with the opportunities to develop new skills and broaden their horizons.
